A MILESTONE FOR CHILDHOOD DOCUMENTARY CINEMA
Since its release, Emiliana Gat-alana has achieved unique feats for a film of its kind and entirely independent. From numerous awards, recognitions, and invitations to open or close film festivals and showcases, undoubtedly the most significant is its official inclusion in the process for the 68th Ariel Awards. We are proud to share that our film was one of the 29 feature-length documentaries officially selected to compete for a nomination at Mexico's most prestigious film awards—the only one focused on children in the entire category.
In a landscape where non-fiction cinema often portrays painful realities, our independent Michoacán-Catalan co-production stood out as an oasis free of violence, demonstrating that it is possible to create films about reality with profound artistic rigor and tenderness.
"We made this film because children also deserve to see themselves reflected in Mexican documentary cinema. Emiliana is not just a cat: it is a story of migration, family, identity and love that children understand immediately and that adults silently recognize."
Alberto Zúñiga Rodríguez, Director
Reaching this selection, as the only children's film among 29 feature-length documentaries from across the country, is in itself a milestone for Mexican children's cinema.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the festivals, screenings, and events where we have been selected, awarded, and invited. We are forever grateful.
¡¡¡MEOWWWWWW!!!
